Fifth GRADE OVERVIEW

 

LANGUAGE ARTS

Fifth graders will learn to analyze grade level appropriate texts to identify theme, figurative language, author's purpose, and story elements. Students will write persuasive, informative, and narrative pieces. They will utilize grade level appropriate spelling and grammar while building vocabulary.

MATHEMATICS

Fifth graders will understand and can apply their knowledge of multiplication and division to the concepts of decimals and fractions. They will be able to multiply and divide multi-digit numbers. They will utilize the metric and customary measurement systems, and identify 3-D polyhedrons.

SCIENCE

Fifth graders will learn about matter and its properties, energy in relation to plants and other organisms, Earth's weather and climate, water conservations and systems, and Earth's place in our solar system.

social studies | history

Fifth graders will have memorized all 50 United States states and capitals. They learn of the beginning of human beings on the Americas, as well as, their exploration. They will also understand the events leading to the Revolutionary War, in addition to, the important people and events during the Revolutionary War. Finally, they will analyze the founding documents and government systems in the United States.

RELIGION

Examining Scripture, students understand its relevance for daily life. They have a broader awareness of God and community; they deepen their understanding of the Trinity, comprehending the intricate relationship between the Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit. They continue to strengthen their relationship with Jesus through prayer and reflection.
